Being at least 9500 years of age, the spruce trees Old Rasmus on Mt. Sonfjället and Old Tjikko on Mt. Fulufjället have aroused great interest over the entire world. Here we tell the almost true story about these thousands of years old spruces and how they became world celebrities. They are accompanied by some of their friends, among others the lemmings
Old Birger and Young Birger, Leif the Reindeer and Boo the Bear. And of course, the scientist dog Rasmus.
Lisa Öberg (author) is a mountain ecologist and has a PhD in biology – research on these ancient spruces is part of her PhD thesis. In addition, she has an academic level pedagogic education. She strives to spread knowledge about the high mountain nature – to make it understandable for each and every one – to increase the respect for the living nature and thereby act for a long-term sustainable development in the mountain region. Together with Leif Kullman, she has written the popular science book “Ancient alpine spruces – life and history” (2013). Magdalena Brunzell (illustrator) is an artist and graphic designer with an education in visual pedagogy, aiming at strengthening interactions between primary school and the cultural society. Preferentially, she works with projects supporting animal rights in society and is one of the cultural grant winners by the Härjedalen municipality.
Both Lisa and Magdalena live next door to the high mountains and their living inhabitants and they share the passion for nature and wildlife.
